In 2010 the European Brass Band Championship and the European Competition for Brass and Percussion Instruments took place in Linz from April 25 - May 2.

The main objective of this event is to promote the aesthetical and social values of the brass band movement. The European top brass bands will take part at this contest. Although there is no brass band tradition in Austria, EBBA (European Brass Band Association) commissed the Championship to Upper Austria, also because of the great success of the Brass Band Oberösterreich, which was formed in 2002. The members are nearly all teachers of brass and percussion instruments in our country.

The European Brass Band Championship was organised by the federal state of Upper Austria, commissed by the Austrian Band Federation and the European Brass Band Association.

In 1978 the first European Brass Band Championship was organised in London and until now every year there is a Contest in another brass band country.

Beside the two competitions there were also the European Youth Brass Band (EYBB) in Linz. Young talented brass band players from the whole of Europe will travel to Linz, rehearse a concert program during this week and play several concerts. One of the ideas of the European Youth Brass Band is the cultural exchange of young people through the medium of music. Soloist was Steven Mead, euphonium.
